Z is for Zombieland

[starreview tpl=16] I <3 Zombies, I cannot lie. So when I was asked if I was interested in reviewing ‘Zombieland’ for blu-ray, it was a no-brainer! Who am I to deny the coolness of zombies and Woody Harrelson as the gun-toting zombie-killer from Tallahassee? Zombieland is a very funny take on how to survive if the entire planet (or in this case,… Continue »

The return of Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart

Crazy Heart heralds the return of Jeff Bridges. Not that he hasn’t already produced fine work prior to this (his creepy and way too convincing psycho-killer Barney in ‘The Vanishing’ springs to mind). In Crazy Heart however, Jeff Bridges takes control of the role with the ease of a seasoned pro and nails it 110 percent. Continue »

The end of the Vampire’s grip on Hollywood?

A new day dawns and so the vampire creeps, creeps, creeps its way slowly back into the shadowy depths of mythology. Or does it? Has Hollywood had its fill of blood-letting and bloodlust? Do we finally bid farewell to Edward Cullen, Angel, Eli and Bill Compton? Or does the vampire continue to dig its nails into the everlasting flesh of… Continue »

Kiwi actors feature in Spartacus

Kiwi actors Lucy Lawless and Craig Parker will be appearing in the upcoming Starz TV series ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’ which looks extremely kick ass, I might add. With executive producer Sam Raimi behind the scenes, I have a good feeling about the show. Checking out the trailer gives me a distinctly ‘300′-cum-’Gladiator’ type feel about it with the grittiness… Continue »

Goya’s Ghosts – DVD Review

If you’ve never heard of the artist Francisco Goya you’re not alone. Goya’s Ghosts is directed by Milos Forman and stars the wonderful Skellan Skarsgard as Goya, Natalie Portman as his muse Ines and Javier Bardem as the manipulative and corrupted Father Lorenzo. It’s a movie told from Goya’s perspective and portrays Goya as a lonely but talented artist who… Continue »

The Red Baron flies off the shelves!

I was thrilled to walk into my local video store to find they had The Red Baron advertised on the shelves. Alas, this happiness was short-lived when I discovered every single copy was out! I was eventually able to grab one as it was returned and was pretty hyped to watch this movie all about the infamous “Red Baron” or… Continue »

Rage game trailer from QuakeCon

Quake is one of my favourite game franchises of all time and the dudes at id software some of my favourite developers. I interviewed a kiwi gamer named ‘ChiQ’ some time ago when I was editor of GC magazine and she had some pretty amazing things to say about the guys at id when she was developing skins for Quake…. Quake Live being hacked already?!

Well I’ll be damned… the cheats have already come out to play using id’s recently in-beta browser based Quake game Quake Live, which we mentioned beta-testing in several earlier posts. What really ticks me off about this is that people are stupid enough to use spectator mode when utilising hacks!!! Seriously – what amateurs… So I guess the question is will… Continue »

Quake Live update

For those of you who don’t know what Quake Live is it’s basically the video game Quake 3 which has been completely redeveloped to be playable via your browser. I’m actually beta-testing it at the moment and wow, it’s really really cool! I am a huge Quake franchise fanatic… loved everything about the games when I used to play them… Continue »

Quake Live beta test go!

So I managed to score a beta test key (thanks to some buddies on this gaming forum I frequent, where I also write the odd game review) and I am now just waiting for the activation key. I seriously can’t wait to play this – I was a HUGE Quake fan and started off playing Quake II and then became… Continue »

This is PCR’s first piece of Gaming related news (for all the gamers out there) and it’s definitely good news for Quake players. There will be an official Quake arena set up for Quake players called ‘Quake Live’. It’s fully supported by id software and allows Quake players from all over to compete online. Quake Live (formerly known as Quake Zero)… Continue »
