Push – DVD Review

Push 300x199 Push DVD Review

Distributor: Summit Entertainment Released: 2009 Genre: Sci-Fi/Thriller Credits: Chris Evans (Chris), Dakota Fanning (Cassie), Djimon Hounsou (Henry), Camilla Belle (Kira), Neil Jackson (Victor) Director: Paul McGuigan Writer: David Bourla

I blogged about this movie some time ago and although what I had to say then was positive, after seeing Push, I actually don’t know why I was so interested in it. Although it is sci-fi (one of my favourite genres), it’s a very bad ‘Heroes’ clone.

The storyline was uninteresting (people around the world with ‘special’ abilities that are rounded up and hunted for testing – sound familiar?) and just didn’t seem as entertaining as I originally thought it would be. Then of course there’s the cast which for the most part, is pretty solid – Dakota Fanning who still seems to be nailing her roles relatively well was more like a fish out of water in this as was the usually amazing Djimon Hounsou. Bad casting made all round I believe. And the gorgeous and talented Neil Jackson whom I first took notice of in the ill-fated TV spin-off of Blade also looked really out of his element in Push.

It seems that the world is over its mutant-come-super hero phase and we’re really just poking the stick at the idea of anything being better than Heroes was in it’s first and second seasons. Push isn’t really showing us anything new. Been there done that, ho hum – moving on.
